RED NOSES International is a global non-profit working across 11 markets. The organisation uses humour to boost emotional wellbeing and resilience by delivering professional healthcare-clowning to children in hospital, seniors, people with disabilities, and those in crisis.
RED NOSES was proud of the fundraising success that they had achieved but could see that there was the potential to optimise activity to unlock growth and build sustainability at a national level. They also wanted to improve coordination collaboration across the global collective.
Upsall International carried out a comprehensive, market-level evaluation for all 8 national fundraising programmes, and developed a series of strategic insights that would build stronger collaboration across the network.
We began by examining key performance metrics across markets, with a particular focus on individual giving channels. With a strategic approach, we identified the key insights that would boost donor loyalty and lifetime value. International then evaluated the state of legacy, major donor, and corporate programmes and then based on this detailed review across the full fundraising mix, provided tailored recommendations on the potential to unlock growth in each market.
So that teams could discuss and consider our findings collaboratively, we delivered a series of workshops to each market on a one-on-one basis, and then together with the collective group at an annual in-person workshop.
Through this project, RED NOSES gained much more than a set of recommendations. We helped the organisation validate that its fundraising model works effectively in most of its markets, while identifying clear opportunities for growth. Together, we strengthened the role of fundraising within the organisation’s overall strategy, uncovered underused channels to complement existing programmes, and initiated international working groups focused on specific fundraising channels and data analysis.
The work also led to a shared international roadmap that distinguishes which markets are ready for growth, which need optimisation, and where efficiency gains can be made. One particularly significant outcome was the recruitment of RED NOSES’ first international fundraising strategist, ensuring that the momentum we built will continue. The result is an organisation with a stronger, more connected, and forward-looking fundraising approach, ready to achieve even greater impact across its international network.
