Background
The Global Methane Hub is the first coordinated philanthropic approach to methane mitigation funding. Believing the dramatic reduction of methane gas can protect the planet and its people from the worst impacts of climate change, The Global Methane Hub supports ambitious catalytic investments, lays the groundwork for long-term transformation of challenging sectors, and delivers quick wins in sectors that are ripe for action on the ground. The Hub focuses on the energy, agricultural, and waste sectors which account for 96% of human-caused methane emissions.

The Global Methane Hub’s actions are global in nature, but we believe quick wins will only be had if we engage sub-nationals and local communities. Our grant making focuses on the highest emitting sectors and regions, and we aim to move fast, be nimble and operate with ambition and vision. Truly global action requires a global team, and the Hub is spread over in six continents with its headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

Purpose of role
In the last two years, The Global Methane Hub (GMH) has grown dramatically, and the position of Grants Manager will oversee the grants management system of the Global Methane Hub. The Grants Manager will ensure grant programs operate efficiently and streamline grant administration. They will be the focal point and administrator for the grant management system, working with internal and external stakeholders including donors and grantees. They will report to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and will work closely with Windward Fund, the fiscal sponsor of the Hub.

Primary responsibilities
The job holder will have the following key responsibilities:
  • Manage overall grant efforts and systems: track grant applications, coordinate due diligence tasks, manage the peer review process, ensure compliance, and ensure timely approvals, agreement execution, payments, and expenditures with the Fluxx grant management system.
  • Optimize the grant administration process, preparing progress reports, ensuring compliance with grant regulations, and reviewing the administrative aspects of all grant proposals.
  • Streamline the grants process between the Hub, grantee, and Windward teams, co-creating and implementing workflow features in the Fluxx grant management system, as well as maintaining information and all parties updated and tailoring for specific needs that users might require.
  • Update the grant making operational manual and co-create workflows as well as matrix of responsibilities for each stage.
  • Work closely with program teams and grantees to ensure a mutually beneficial grant making process.
  • Develop and distribute detailed programmatic and financial reports to track progress towards our strategic goals.
  • Respond to funder, grantees, and team member inquiries and requests for analysis.
  • Collaborate closely with the monitoring, learning, and evaluation system of the Hub, co-creating and implementing changes to the grant making system as needed.
  • Manage timelines and deliverables regarding reporting, payment schedules, and deliverables.
  • Expertly administer Fluxx grant management system for all users including funders, grantees, team members, including providing training and resources. This includes creation of process documents, analyzing data, and submitting reports according to stakeholder needs.
  • Tracks grant disbursements against the budget and keeps the program teams informed; synthesizes information for presentation to stakeholders.
  • Establishes benchmarks for various aspects of the grant making process and tracks actuals against benchmarks and report.

Experience, qualifications, and personal traits desired
  • Demonstrates organizational values of equity, agility, humility, integrity, and care.
  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience in grant management, preferably for a global organization, or in a related field (e.g., public administration, non-profit management, or fundraising).
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting and exceptional budgeting and monitoring skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of grant management software (design, implementation, and operations).
  • Intellectual agility, methodical and strategic thinking, and the ability to analyze and synthesize critical information.
  • Highly collaborative with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to all levels of the organization, external partners, and grantees.
  • Superior project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong research ability and advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Written and oral fluency in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google workspace. Experience with Fluxx preferred.
  • Ability to work on a flexible schedule, with occasional meetings outside business hours given the global nature of our team.

Terms and conditions
The Global Methane Hub is a project of Windward Fund, a 501(c)(3) public charity that incubates new and innovative public-interest projects and grant-making programs. U.S. employees are employed by our fiscal sponsor, the Windward Fund. Windward offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 160 hours of vacation time, 80hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment.

Windward participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with employees’ Form I-9information to confirm authorization to work in the United States. Additional information
  • This will be a full-time (40 hours/week) remote role. Role requires considerable time flexibility in order to support and collaborate with staff and stakeholders in multiple time zones. The position supervisor is in the GMT-3 time zone.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally (~10%).
