To support its growing portfolio and enhance operational effectiveness, it is seeking a Program Associate who combines strong research capabilities with operational excellence and an interest in leveraging emerging technologies, including AI.

Purpose of the role

The Program Associate plays a key role at the intersection of strategy and execution. Working closely with leadership, this individual supports research, grantmaking operations, and organizational effectiveness while helping identify opportunities to improve workflows through technology and artificial intelligence.

Primary Responsibilities

Research

  • Support the development of AI-enabled tools and knowledge management systems to improve research processes
  • Conduct in-depth research on environmental and climate-related topics to inform philanthropic investments and strategic initiatives
  • Perform shorter-term research assignments in response to emerging opportunities and organizational priorities
  • Prepare research summaries, briefing materials, and strategic documents for internal and external stakeholders
  • Take notes during meetings and calls, and coordinate follow-up actions and communications

Operations

  • Maintain grant management systems and internal documentation, ensuring accurate records and reporting
  • Prepare grant recommendation materials and related correspondence for leadership review
  • Serve as a point of contact for routine communications with nonprofit partners, peer organizations, and internal stakeholders
  • Reconcile grant information and support regular financial and portfolio reporting
  • Coordinate recurring team meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and action-item tracking
  • Organize meetings, workshops, and events, both virtual and in person
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve operational processes, systems, and workflows

Profile

Experience

  • Educational focus or job experience in environmental studies, sustainability, climate or a related field preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts, with the ability to translate technological capabilities into practical business applications
  • Experience with grant management platforms, CRM systems, or similar operational tools is preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other productivity software; familiarity with design or visualization tools is an asset

  • Passion for environmental sustainability and innovative approaches to addressing climate-related challenges
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proactive, intellectually curious, and comfortable working independently within a small team
  • High level of discretion and professionalism, with experience handling confidential information

Work Environment

This position is based in New York City and follows a flexible hybrid work model that combines in-office and remote work. Occasional domestic travel may be required.
