Location type: Remote
Reporting to: US Head of Philanthropy
Manages: No direct reports
Annual salary: $75K – $85K USD
Contract type: Permanent
Working hours: Part time/Full time
Candidate level: Manager
Background
Compassion in World Farming International was founded in 1967 in England by Peter Roberts, a British farmer who became horrified by the development of intensive factory farming. Over 50 years ago, Peter decided to make a difference and take a stand against this farming system. In his lifetime, Peter saw the demise of veal crates and gestation crates in the UK, and in Europe achieved recognition that animals are sentient beings. Compassion in World Farming, Inc. was incorporated in 2014 and received 501(c)(3) status in 2015. The USA is an important international office for Compassion, as part of our increasing global reach.
This is an exciting time to join the Global Philanthropy team at Compassion in World Farming and contribute to delivering their mission to end factory farming. With growing awareness of the impact of factory farming, not only on animal welfare, but on human health and the environment, now is a unique moment to help raise money for Compassion’s work and bring new supporters on board.
Annual gross income to Compassion was £14.1 M GBP in FY21/22, a growth of 57% since 2020. The Global Philanthropy team has a strong track record, increasing income from £300 K in 2012/13 to over £5.2 M in 2022/23. Compassion has just launched a new three-year strategy, alongside a fundraising growth plan that aims to significantly grow income by 2030.
Purpose of role
In this role, you will be responsible for cultivating and soliciting significant gifts from individuals (philanthropists and HNWIs) based in the US. You will manage relationships with existing donors, providing them with first-class stewardship through written updates and reports. New business growth is a priority, with a focus on managing our Major Gifts program ($10 K+) and mid-value program ($1 K - $10 K). You will work closely with the US Head of Philanthropy, US and global programs colleagues and directors to identify funding opportunities and create compelling proposals for the work of Compassion in the US and globally. Strong relationship management skills, the ability to think creatively, and excellent writing skills are essential to the success of this role.
You will work closely with the US Head of Philanthropy to develop a robust set of income targets and growth plans in the coming years, as part of the Global Philanthropy team targets. This includes management of our events program – planning, designing and executing in-person events and webinars to cultivate our donors and prospects.
You will report to the US Head of Philanthropy as part of a dynamic and supportive team of 3 major donor fundraisers in the US, and a broader team of 11 major donor fundraisers comprising the Global Philanthropy Team in the UK and Europe. You will work closely with your counterpart in the international team, the Senior Philanthropy Manager supporting on strategy and proposal development and maintaining alignment across markets.
