Annual salary: $75K – $90K USD

Background
Compassion in World Farming International was founded in 1967 in England by Peter Roberts, a British farmer who became horrified by the development of intensive factory farming. Over 50 years ago, Peter decided to make a difference and take a stand against this farming system. In his lifetime, Peter saw the demise of veal crates and gestation crates in the UK, and in Europe achieved recognition that animals are sentient beings. Compassion in World Farming, Inc. was incorporated in 2014 and received 501(c)(3) status in 2015. The USA is an important international office for Compassion, as part of our increasing global reach.
This is an exciting time to join the Global Philanthropy team at Compassion in World Farming and contribute to delivering our mission to end factory farming. With growing awareness of the impact of factory farming not only on animal welfare, but on human health and the environment, now is a unique moment to raise money for Compassion’s work and bring new donors on board.
Annual gross income to Compassion was £14.1 million GBP in FY21/22. The Global Philanthropy team has a strong track record, growing income from £300k in 2012/13 to over £5m in 2022/23. Compassion has just launched a new three-year strategy, alongside a fundraising growth plan which aims to significantly grow our income by 2030.
Purpose of role
In this role you will be responsible for fundraising from trusts and foundations in the US. You will manage relationships with existing $10,000+ donors, several of which are giving six figure gifts, providing them with first-class stewardship through written updates and reports. New business growth is a priority, with a major focus on managing our principal gifts ($10k+) and minor focus on mid-value program (up to $10K). You will work closely with programs colleagues to identify funding opportunities and create compelling proposals. Strong relationship management skills, an ability to think creatively, and excellent writing skills are essential to the success of this role.
You will also have responsibility for the strategy of fundraising from trusts & foundations, working closely with the US Head of Philanthropy to develop a robust set of income targets and growth plans in the coming years.
You will report to the US Head of Philanthropy as part of a dynamic and supportive team of 3 major donor fundraisers in the US, and a broader team of 11 major donor fundraisers comprising the Global Philanthropy Team in the UK and Europe. You will work closely with your counterpart in the international team, the Senior Trusts and Foundations Manager, supporting on strategy and proposal development and maintaining an alignment across markets.
