UMIF Fund announcement

Welcoming New Voices Joining UMI’s Journey for People-Powered Climate Action

Over the last 6 years, the Urban Movement Innovation Fund (UMI) has been supporting stronger movements that can develop, demand, and deliver just climate solutions.

We have been thrilled to support UMI on a number of recruitments over the past few years, and today we are delighted to have four new team members to announce!

Firstly, taking on the important role of Digital Media Officer, Raya Barreiro joins the team in order to elevate the organisation’s storytelling and enhance vital engagement with funders, stakeholders, and the wider climate community.

Secondly, Kaluki Paul Mutuku joins UMI as Youth Programme Coordinator. Playing a pivotal role in supporting and amplifying the power of the youth climate movement, Kaluki will work in collaboration with young people to co-create impactful projects.

Thirdly, the position of Head of Finance is being taken on by Kanchan Kapoor. Thrilled to join the organisation, Kanchan is “excited to help strengthen the financial systems that enable such vital work. I look forward to partnering with colleagues and frontline organisations across the globe to build systems that are rigorous, transparent, and empowering.”

And lastly, UMI is welcoming Doug Banks to the position of Data Officer. Doug is “so glad to be joining UMI to bring my experience across climate campaigning, grant making, and data systems to help support the infrastructures that sustain the climate justice movement.”

Upsall International’s Isabel Leal led the searches for both Raya and Kaluki, while McAra Kirby-Fahey managed the search for Kanchan and Doug. All of the recruitment processes were conducted internationally, with Isabel and McAra tapping into global networks to secure the new team members.

As always, we are so pleased to partner with UMI as they continue on their mission to create real and just impact, and we very much look forward to seeing Raya, Kaluki, Kanchan, and Doug settle into their new roles.
